New Products Showcase
Posted: October 2008

This month I’d like to report to you about a couple of innovative home comfort products that we have been installing regularly: whole house fans and ductless heating and air conditioning systems.

Whole House Fans are installed in the ceiling. They bring in cool air from outside and replace the air inside of your home, as well as the hot air up in your attic. It’s sort of like an air ‘transfusion’. Let me be very clear, this is not the low-priced attic exhaust fans that are typically installed through a roof.

On summer days when you know that it will be hot, you can use a whole house fan to bring in cooler air during the cooler morning hours, which will keep your home cool until later in the day. In the evening, when the air outside becomes cooler, you can bring that air inside which will cool your home and your attic and allow you to turn off your air conditioner.

These fans save money because they cost much less to operate than air conditioning. Yes, they do bring in outside air and you will need to open some doors or windows, but if you’re okay with that, you’ll reduce your electric bill. Contact me for more detailed information.

Ductless Systems consist of an indoor blower section and an outdoor condenser. They work exactly like conventional systems; they just don’t have any ducts. They have been used in Europe and Asia for many years. Until recently, consumers here were not aware of them - or their benefits. They are used mostly when there is not enough room for a conventionally ducted system. These units are also used in place of noisy, typically undersized and inefficient window units.

When sized and installed properly they will provide ample amounts of warm or cool air, great air filtration, quiet operation with very high efficiency. They are made by many manufacturers in many capacities. They can be used for individual or multiple room applications.

The costs for these products vary greatly depending on the installation criteria and the models chosen. Call me directly if you would like more detailed information.
